We are seeking at least two (2) Simulation Technicians for contracted roles supporting ABEM’s physician-led certification examinations in Raleigh, NC. Each role is expected to support approximately 4–5 one-week exam administrations per year (Sunday–Thursday). The Simulation Technician ensures exam readiness, trains physicians on case setup and flow, and provides real-time support during administrations to maintain a consistent candidate experience.
In this role, you will be the primary technical resource for the examining physicians on our Procedures cases during an administration. This includes ensuring the manikins are set up and ready for training day, that all supplies are available and ready for use, and that physicians are expertly trained in manikin operation. This position will fix equipment when needed at the beginning of each session and provide immediate troubleshooting during live testing. While technical equipment skills are required, training will be provided, and candidates with strong anatomy, pathology, or forensic pathology backgrounds are encouraged to apply. In addition, if you can only commit to 2-3 administrations, you should still apply.
Key Responsibilities
Physician Training: Conduct training sessions for examining physicians to ensure they understand how to trigger manikin functions, reset scenarios, and utilize task trainers.
Technical Assembly: Lead the physical setup and calibration of mid-fidelity manikins and clinical task trainers according to standardized exam protocols.
Live Troubleshooting: Serve as the on-site, "on-call" technician during exams to resolve any mechanical issues immediately, ensuring no disruption to the candidate’s experience.
Equipment Stewardship: Identify equipment issues and communicate these immediately to the Administrative Lead and Procedure Examination Case Lead. Communicate low inventory and supply needs.
Confidentiality: Adhere to strict security protocols regarding exam content and physician/candidate interactions.
Requirements
Simulation Expertise: At least three years of experience in a healthcare simulation lab, specifically working with mid-fidelity equipment.
Technical Aptitude: Strong ability to troubleshoot task trainer issues quickly under pressure.
Communication: Ability to provide clear, concise technical instructions to physicians.
Reliability: Must be available for the full administration (Sunday to Thursday). There are nine (9) administrations per year.
Security: Must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) due to the proprietary nature of the certification exams.
